Masjid al-Hisn : ウィキペディア英語版 | Masjid al-Hisn
Masjid al-Hisn ((アラビア語:مسجد الحصن)) ("The Fortress Mosque") was built between 717 to 720CE by the Umayyad caliph Umar II, after he decided that Mopsuestia in the present Turkey provided a key city to stop a potential Greek attack against Antioch.〔al-Baladhuri, Ahmad The Origins of the Islamic State, Part 2 - Chapter 16〕 A cistern within the structure was inscribed with Umar's full name, ''Umar ibn-'Abd-al-'Aziz''.〔 The building fell into ruin during the reign of Al-Mu'tasim, approximately 120 years later.〔 ==References==
